Chicago Randoms

Here are some random pictures I've shot over the past year of downtown Chicago. I love this city. The big buildings, tourists it attracts, view of Lake Michigan, and history are excellent subjects to take pictures of.

The Cloud Gate - "The Bean"

I have been waiting for a while now to shoot "the bean", which is located at Chicago's Millennium Park. After purchasing a tripod, that was one of the first trips I was making. I took the Metra downtown and arrived in Chicago just before 7am (the best time to take pictures outside on a sunny day is dawn or dusk). The temperature outside was chilly and the sky was filled with clouds all morning and early afternoon. This worked in my favor.

Intro

I've always been into photography, but never pushed forward with it. Just over a year ago I purchased my NIKON d3100 camera. Ever since the first day I started playing with it, I've been hooked. When I first started using it, I seen myself only taking it out on special occasions. Now, I wish I could take this camera everywhere I go. I really enjoy shooting. I have not taken any classes (I do plan to in the future). I have been learning by articles I read, other photographers, and most importantly, experience. It really amazes me how one little setting on the camera can really make a difference to the picture being taken. I am understanding more and more that anyone can pick up a descent quality camera and take a good photograph. But what makes for a great photograph is understanding the composition, lighting, subject, etc. Photographs should be able to set a mood and tell a story for the viewer.

As I continue to take photographs, I continue to learn. Please don't hesitate to comment, critique, and give advice. It's only going to make me a better photographer.

A picture is worth 1,000 words, but a picture also creates a memory. A memory can last a lifetime.
